Introducing Upper East Side

Home to old New York gentility, the Upper East Side is both a neighbourhood and a way of life, immortalized in the novels of Truman Capote and Edith Wharton.

In this patrician enclave, prep school kids in blazers dot the sidewalks, and ladies who lunch sit in white-linen restaurants clad in their cashmere and pearls.

The most exquisite of homes can still be found on Fifth Avenue, coveted for their picture-perfect views of and proximity to the urban oasis of Central Park.

The cultural life is as rich as the neighbourhood’s stalwarts, with the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Guggenheim, and Whitney Museum all within close range. From Holly Golightly’s cherished Tiffany & Co. window to the designer boutiques lining Madison Avenue, the neighborhood has plenty to offer those looking to lighten their purses.

Not all of the Upper East Side is subject to the whims and ways of the 1%, however. Move further east from Madison Avenue and you’ll notice a distinctly more youthful vibe, with more affordable rent and laid back pubs drawing green New Yorkers to the area.
